BugBear worm bites.. IMPORTANT WARNING

The Bugbear worm (virus) which we first encountered on Monday Morning, has become an increasingly troublesome beast. If you use Windows (virtually any version), you should read this article.

Initially, this work was considered a moderate risk only, however less than 3 days later, it is recognised as a particularly vigerous animal. The distribution is recognised as high and damage as medium.

Bugbear is a mass-mailing worm. It can also spread through network shares. It has keystroke-logging and backdoor capabilities. The worm also attempts to terminate the processes of various antivirus and firewall programs.

We have already had instances of professional clients security being compromised, with usernames and passwords for multiple accounts being disclosed, and confidential communications also being exposed.

This is a real threat, users should take all appropriate steps to protect themselves immediately
