HERE'S WHY
- In a nutshell IT WON'T WORK;
- It will give parents a FALSE feeling of security;
- It ERODES the RIGHTS and responsibilities of the family unit and the individual;
- It will cause extensive COLLATERAL DAMAGE to Australia's internet industry, both infrastructure and content provision;
- It will make Australia the laughing stock of the Information Age - no longer the "clever" country, instead the "censored" country. In the illustrious company of such models of modern free thinking and democracy as China and Singapore.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
Probably nothing - the politicians have already made our minds up for us. But you can give these a try if you don't want to lie down and roll over for President Harradine.
Sign the Petition
Write and post a letter to your local representatives and the Senate. 10 or more different hand written or typed letters from 10 or more voters, signed and POSTED (NOT emailed or faxed) WILL get noticed and acted on.

Internet Censorship
... a cynical exercise in calculated deceit
The Australian Government is about to pass into law ammendments to the Broadcasting Act which they publicly claim will "protect" children from pornography on the net.
THEY LIE
What they DON'T tell you:
- It WON'T work (so please, for your children's sake don't relax your current vigilance);
- IF their newly recruited 5 employees work tirelessly for a year they just might be able to block 1% of offending sites for a short time. Given the explosive growth in both the off-shore internet industry and new technologies for delivering material that can't be blocked even 1% is being generous.
- The government KNOWS it won't work.
- Deals are alleged to have been done between upper levels of government and certain large Internet, communications and media conglomerates to minimise objections to the bill .
- These sweetheart deals may effectively undermine the viability of smaller, independent ISP's. But then, we know the government doesn't really care about small business.
- The government has allowed itself myriad "let-out" clauses whereby if it is too "difficult" or expensive for ISP's to comply with the regulations, they won't have to do more than "try".
- ALL THE GOVERNMENT WANT'S IS TO KEEP BRIAN HARRADINE HAPPY TO GET HIS VOTE ON IT'S TAX BILL, AND TO HELL WITH ANYTHING THAT MIGHT GET IN THE WAY!
Congratulations Australia - you're about to be had!
