Booking.com Reviewed 2 April, 2016 " Lots of character and a truly European Experience!!! " We stayed there over Easter which is not high season. This lodge had a lot of character, better than the other boring properties around which offer the same look and feel/ambiance you can find in any regular hotel/lodge. If you want a real different experience stay at Karelia as it will make you feel you are not in Australia at all. The German All you can eat Dinner on Saturdays is awesome, the staff was really friendly and knows a lot about the area. The place was really clean it was very warm. Tripadvisor “True experience in Alpne Lodge” Reviewed 2 September 2016 I arrived late and had the warmest of greeting. Lovely hot meal and with a red wine to recover and warm me from my all day travelling. A delightful comfortable room, with private amenities and heating that I could regulate to suit me. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful in the most delightful room. Storage for skiing gear was plentiful and secure. All staff helpful . For a lone traveller it was so good. Tripadvisor “Warm and Cosy” Reviewed 24 July 2015 We really enjoyed our stay here. The lodge is jam packed with knick-knacs from around Europe. The outdoor spa was just what these sore muscles needed after a day (or sometimes half a day because I'm not young anymore!) on the slopes. We liked the set times for breakfast and dinner. Helped us to plan our day/evening. The afternoon tea in the afternoon was always delicious and kept us going until dinner. Dinner was always so filling that sometimes there would be no need for breakfast (but we didn't say no of course!) Staff were helpful and advised us where to go etc and even organised our lift tickets. Thanks for the pleasant stay. I stay here with my girlfriend for a romantic weekend escape but happy to stay here on my own trips too as Jerry is so inviting and accommodating i know there will always be a friendly face to chat to and he always remembers his guests! Tripadvisor “Brilliant stay” Reviewed 16 August 2015 Karelia is a gem. With the decor, delicious food and great selection of drinks, I felt like I had been transported to a European ski resort. Nothing was too much trouble for Jerry and the staff; I arrived after the restaurant had closed and they had put some dinner aside for me. The German night was a standout - I have never seen such an enormous selection of desserts. The breakfasts were hearty and it was great to have a changing selection each morning. I had a single room which was cosy and just right. I slept solidly and the shower was always hot. Karelia is in a fantastic location with great access to the slopes, lifts and amenities. The guests can't help but relax with the staff being so easygoing and welcoming; I met some great people. Our room was warm and cosy the only down fall was, we were at the very top of the chalet and needed to travel down 2 flights of stairs to get a cup tea...it would have been nicer to pop a kettle and a few tea bags in the room, for as the room did have a bar fridge. . From Tripadvisor : “Slice of Austria in Australia” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2014 If your a skier or snow border then you cant go past Falls Creek for some great slope action and if you want true ski in ski out - Karelia Alpine Lodge cannot be overlooked. Its location is high overlooking the village of Falls creek. Its outlook is over the valley and other lodgings on other streets below. The bitumen road out side the lodge in Winter is completely under snow and lends to true step out of the ski drying room, snap on the ski's and off you go down the slight decline to the end of the street, down and down other roads right to the Express ski lift that will take you right up the mountain where there are many slopes for you to explore to your hearts content. When done with your days efforts, follow the village bowl run to a turn off track that takes you right back to the lodges front door. Karelia is built to offer the little things that we take for granted when at home. Ski drying room, oldstyle wooden outside hot tub, sauna, comfortable lounge sitting room with cakes and arvo tea/coffee. The rooms are small but very cosy. Try to get one facing the street with balcony. Room 9, 10 or 11 all good for that. Bathroom very small, but no more different than staying in Europe. The Austrian alpine feel and cosiness outweighs any need for large expanse of rooms. The staff's friendliness make you feel welcomed and "part of a family". We had all meals as part of our lodging with exception of lunch (which can be had at the many restaurants on the mountain). Breakfasts and dinners were set menus, placing your order in the morning from a couple of choices all of which were scrumptious euro fare with an Austrian/German content. Be prepared to be very very full when leaving each sitting! German and Bohemian nights are hosted in the bar/restaurant downstairs which forms part of the lodges offerings. Certainly a nice place to hang after a days skiing. The decor inside the lodge is one of Christmas feel and look. The whole place is dripping memorabilia from an Austrian mountain lodge. The owner and proprietor "Jerry" has been in Falls Creek for many many years and knows all there is to know about where to ski what to do and how to get there. Highly recommend joining his Facebook feed to get the snippets of news from the mountain prior to arrival since he gets to ski often and publishes pics of the weather and snow conditions. The proximity to the main ski lift is great, as well as easy access back from the Wombat's Ramble trail. The hosts were welcoming without being overbearing. They upgraded my room and let me have access on my last day so that I could shower and change before leaving. I had breakfast included which was outstanding, a medium size cooked to order meal (eggs benedict was the best I've had) as well as buffet continental. I also had one main meal, which was 4 wonderful courses with a choice of mains. The facilities are all you need with a ski room, drying room and lounge room with super comfortable couches. The rooms and bathrooms are tiny... but what are you at Falls Creek for if you care about the size of these? Most importantly the rooms were warm, the hot water was immediate and the pillows and mattresses very comfortable. The only thing I would change would be to make sure I had dinner downstairs for more of that German/Austrian fare. Thanks. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is great.
We loved the outdoor spa, had a roll in the snow and then in the spa, it was memorable.
Don't miss out on the home made afternoon tea in the Lounge.
They serve awesome 4 course dinners with several choices and the menu is changing daily.

Usually my wife and I travel together but she hates the cold so I decided to come up on my own.
The snow conditions were great, not too overly crowded and had some sunny days, the snow machines were hard at work doing a great job. Fantastic skiing.
The lodge was comfortable and warm, food was excellent and staff were friendly.
Would have loved the wife to join me in the outdoor spa with a glass of wine but ended up meeting and chatting
with other guests which was nice.
Hopefully next time I can convince her, I know she would have loved this place, I give it 5 stars.

We recently stayed in Karelia for about a week and were very pleased that we did!
The highlight for us was the outdoor spa which we really needed after a big day on the slopes!
I always tried to make sure I was around for the afternoon tea in the communal lounge - yummo!
It was out first time to Falls Creek and we found Jerry (the manager) to be extremely helpful!
He organised our oversnow transport, ski hire, lift tickets and airport transfers so we didn't have to think about a thing!
He always came to chat to all the guests during meal times and provided us with weather updates and
answered any questions we had.
The rooms were nice(Swiss - Austrian alpine style) and cosy and there was plenty of storage space for our luggage.
Came back home feeling very relaxed. We loved it so much we booked again for September!

Jerry what an amazing person you are.
On the day we arrived (Sunday) the hot water service pipe burst .
You put your overalls on and fixed it, thanks for that otherwise no hot water.
Later in the day the power supply was down (due to the mountain storm),
You didn’t waste any time and connected the electric generator, some of your
guests didn’t even notice, that the power was down and then you cooked our dinner.
We loved your meals (Especially the Czech roast, the French veal paupiettes and the rest)
and the afternoon cakes, the rooms are small, but very comfortable and so clean and
the "Outdoors Hot Spa" – what a great IDEA!!!
The Lodge Austrian deco makes you feel that you are in other parts of the world.

This was my first visit to Falls Creek, and despite the heavy mist and cloud,
it was my best skiing trip. I loved staying at Karelia, which was more like a boarding home
than a hotel. Dinner at the same time for everyone is a great idea as you get to meet the other
guests!!! The food was delicious by the way. Furthermore, I especially enjoyed the evenings
in the cozy loungeroom, exchanging war stories with the other guests.

Our accommodation was great, we had a cosy double room which had fridge, bathroom and tv. The location of karelia lodge was fantastic, as we skied in and out from the lifts or the home trail. We mainly stayed in the shared loungeroom by the fire place and either read a book or watched tv. There are many European decorations on the walls, it really makes you feel like you are in a place far from home. Dinner was amazing as was the breakfast. For dinner, we had a 4 course meal which was the same quality as you would find in a good restaurant in Melbourne, we were very impressed! Breakfast was a buffet style which you could help yourself to yoghurts, cereals, muffins or cakes and fruit, juice and also a hot option, all included. Overall, we would definitely stay here again. Tripadvisor “Warm and Cosy” Reviewed 24 July 2015 We really enjoyed our stay here. The lodge is jam packed with knick-knacs from around Europe. The outdoor spa was just what these sore muscles needed after a day (or sometimes half a day because I'm not young anymore!) on the slopes. We liked the set times for breakfast and dinner. Helped us to plan our day/evening. The afternoon tea in the afternoon was always delicious and kept us going until dinner. Dinner was always so filling that sometimes there would be no need for breakfast (but we didn't say no of course!) Staff were helpful and advised us where to go etc and even organised our lift tickets. Thanks for the pleasant stay. Tripadvisor “A cosy nostalgic sanctuary” Reviewed 8 August 2015 I wouldn't stay anywhere else now that I have found Karelia. We stay here every trip to Falls Creek. The thoughtful decor transports you into a european holiday and automatically you feel relaxed and welcomed. The lodge is warm, cosy and the service is exceptional. Jerry and his staff really love what they do and go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and part of their family. The food is always delicious, innovative and wholesome. I stay here with my girlfriend for a romantic weekend escape but happy to stay here on my own trips too as Jerry is so inviting and accommodating i know there will always be a friendly face to chat to and he always remembers his guests! The lodge is situated in a great position on the mountain and everything from arrival to departure is just smooth, easy sailing, you don't have to think about a thing - I go home each time feeling like I have had a holiday! Tripadvisor “Brilliant stay” Reviewed 16 August 2015 Karelia is a gem. With the decor, delicious food and great selection of drinks, I felt like I had been transported to a European ski resort. Nothing was too much trouble for Jerry and the staff; I arrived after the restaurant had closed and they had put some dinner aside for me. The German night was a standout - I have never seen such an enormous selection of desserts. The breakfasts were hearty and it was great to have a changing selection each morning. I had a single room which was cosy and just right. I slept solidly and the shower was always hot. Karelia is in a fantastic location with great access to the slopes, lifts and amenities. The guests can't help but relax with the staff being so easygoing and welcoming; I met some great people. Booking.com "A lovely lodge" Reviewed 16 August, 2016 The outside spa was lovely. Because there was lots of snow the location was great, but if the roads were clear it would be a long walk getting to the lifts and especially be difficult getting back to the lodge. Booking.com Reviewed 2 April, 2016 " Lots of character and a truly European Experience!!! " We stayed there over Easter which is not high season. This lodge had a lot of character, better than the other boring properties around which offer the same look and feel/ambiance you can find in any regular hotel/lodge. If you want a real different experience stay at Karelia as it will make you feel you are not in Australia at all. The German All you can eat Dinner on Saturdays is awesome, the staff was really friendly and knows a lot about the area. The place was really clean it was very warm. Tripadvisor “Charming Alpine Experience” Reviewed 30 August 2016 My wife, our son, and I were on holiday from the U.S. and had to see the mountains of Australia. The lodge had all the charms of an Alpine log cabin. The rooms were really clean and the breakfast was very satisfying. The pastries cannot be missed. I wish they sell their cookies on the internet. The people ,all involved in the running of the place were always available and willing to assist and give information. Tripadvisor “True experience in Alpne Lodge” Reviewed 2 September 2016 I arrived late and had the warmest of greeting. Lovely hot meal and with a red wine to recover and warm me from my all day travelling. A delightful comfortable room, with private amenities and heating that I could regulate to suit me. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful in the most delightful room. Storage for skiing gear was plentiful and secure. All staff helpful . For a lone traveller it was so good. Plenty of snow so ski in and out. Room Tip: Spa is upstairs and out side so if you want to be close to this upper level is good Rosalind B _______________________________________________________________

Will happily book again next snow season - for another solo escape or a romantic getaway. Outdoor spa & sauna is fantastic after a long day on the slopes. Very happy guest!
