Mrs Stell's House in Miniature

An incredibly detailed dolls house is on display at the Wangaratta Information Centre. Note the incredible accuracy of the furniture and fittings.

This masterpiece is a one sixth scale house, complete in every tiny detail. Miniature lights that really work, small bottles and glasses, envelopes in the writing desk and genuine pictures on the walls.

The House in Miniature is a labour of love that took Mrs Stell ten years to complete. It is all the more amazing as she started when she was 70 years old in 1978, using a stanley knife, a saw, a three cornered file and lots of glue and sandpaper.

Confluence of the Ovens and King Rivers

Standing on the bridge crossing the Ovens River, at the Northern end of Wangaratta's main street, the old Hume Highway, and looking upstream, you can see the confluence or joining of the two rivers, the Ovens and the King rivers.

In the photo above taken behind the Pioneer Cemetery, you can see the Ovens River marked O flowing in from the north, and the King River marked K flowing in from the east, the two rivers join and flow under the old Hume Highway as the Ovens River, marked B.

A plaque has been placed on the northern end of the bridge, " This tablet commemorates the crossing of the Ovens River near this spot by Major Mitchell, October 15 1836. The river was named by Hume and Hovell November 24 1824."
