The Vine Hotel is one of those Classic Old Hotels that has not changed a lot since Ned Kelly and his gang drank there in the 1880's. Above you can see the period furniture which gives the Hotel a very friendly atmosphere. Above you can see the old open wood fire place, with the 1880's style huge wall mirror, and the very comfortable old country chairs and lounges.
The Vine is a great place to simply relax and wind down, and have a meal or two. Meals are Wed to Sun 12.00 pm till 2.00 pm 6.00 pm till 8.00 pm
Underneath the Vine Hotel is a huge Cellar. It is now used as a Museum, but in the 1880's, when the Kelly Gang drank there, ( Joe Byrne lived at El Dorado, and his relatives still do ), there was a tunnel going from the cellar to the other side of the road for quick escapes in case of police raids. The tunnel has been filled in but you can see the entrance to it in the cellar.
Above left is a room full of photographs of the late 1800's and early 1900's, with captions on each photo. Also there are books relating to the history of the area. Above left is a blacksmith's bellows, along with a large variety of blacksmithing tools. Above right is what was called a "Magic Lantern", used for projecting glass plate negative images onto the wall in 1903. Above is an "automatic" washing machine, simply lift and depress the handle to regurgitate the washing water, with the attachment of the drying rollers, through which the washing was wrung or squeezed, thus forcing most of the water out.
