EL DORADO VALLEY OF DISCOVERY Nestled in the foothills of the Ovens Valley, the Historic Township of El Dorado is an ideal location to escape the frustrations of city life. Situated only twenty two kilometres from Wangaratta, El Dorado is a short trip from the many attractions of Victoria's fabulous North East, and makes the ideal stopover whilst touring the area. The township boasts several thriving businesses, accommodation, and a tavern and store to further cater to your needs. The Reedy Creek that flows through the Woolshed Valley to El Dorado was the source of the mining that built the El Dorado Township., supporting a century of shaft, sluice and dredge mining. Many historic relics are still preserved including the immense gold dredge, which was, during its time of operation, the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. The Woolshed Valley itself contains some of the most picturesque country in Victoria, and anglers can enjoy seeking the trout which inhabit the upper reaches of the Reedy Creek. Today Eldorado remains an extremely interesting, beautiful and tranquil spot, a must to visit.
