TALLANGATTA'S 50'S FESTIVAL IN 1954 THE OLD TOWN OF TALLANGATTA WAS MOVED 8 KILOMETRES WEST TO ITS PRESENT LOCATION SO THE HUME WEIR COULD INCREASE ITS HOLDING CAPACITY, AND THEREBY FLOODING THE SITE OF THE OLD TOWN. THE NEW TALLANGATTA WAS OFFICIALLY OPENED IN JUNE OF 1956, THE SAME YEAR AS THE OLYMPIC GAMES IN MELBOURNE. THE TALLANGATTA 50'S FESTIVAL IS HELD IN NOVEMBER OF EACH YEAR TO COMMEMORATE THE MOVING OF THE TOWN.
