Australian Aboriginal Paintings
In the pages below you will find a selection of Australian Aboriginal Paintings by renowned Australian Aboriginal Artist Eddy Harris.
"This painting shows one of many Dreamtime stories and hunting methods that were passed down through our people, the Bakandji, over thousands of years. It depicts a Sand Goanna being hunted around a water hole which is on a claypan base between sandhills, where the Goanna burrows. Our tribe used digging sticks that are made from the Wattle Tree, to dig the Goanna out." Eddy Harris
This painting shows one of many Dreamtime stories and hunting methods that were passed down through our people, the Bakandji, over thousands of years. It depicts a Sand Goanna being hunted around a water hole which is on claypan between sandhills where the Goanna burrows. Our tribe used digging sticks that are made from the Wattle Tree, to dig the Goanna out. The two oval shapes shown top and bottom represent two carrying dishes for collecting food. The large circle in the centre of the painting represents a waterhole, whilst the bushes are shown in grey. Three circles are shown on each side of the painting representing goanna burrows in the sand. Sand Goanna was one of the favourite foods of our people.
