ORNITHORHYNCHUS These animals can be seen in every river in this region. The platypus is extremely shy so very hard to see. The Albury Paddle Steamer Cumberoona has the Platypus as its icon, and has a185 cm high platypus suit for promotions. It would be easier to take photos of this one. Mitta is a good place to see the real ones.

OUNCE The measurement used for weighing gold. Currently an ounce of gold is worth around $260 USA, or about $520 Australian. To explain the weight of an ounce, 20 grains equals 1 scruple, 3 scruples equals 1 dram, and 8 drams equals 1 ounce. The Rutherglen Common School Museum has a full set of weights and measures well worth a look. Rutherglen Common School Museum

OUTHOUSE Our region does not have a famous outhouse, but we do have two unique ones. The Ettamogah Pub has a very unusual Outhouse built in the comical style of the Pub. Wangaratta have a complete Rest Room Service, with an attendant, where you can have a shower, even have a short nap or a rest. This is the only attended Comfort Station in the region, and is located at the Southern end of town, in the Main Street just above Merriwa Park.
OUTLAWS The region once had many outlaws, attracted by the gold. The more famous are, Ned Kelly and his Gang, Mad Dog Morgan and Harry Power. The Beechworth Courthouse is a great place to track many of them down.
OVAL The major Sporting Oval in the region is the Lavington Sports Club Oval, which holds occasional State Cricket Matches and practice AFL games.
OVENS There are not many cooking ovens left in the region, but there is one large brick wood fired bakers oven at ElDorado, in the old bakery. Jindera Pioneer museum has an old brick oven, and a few household ovens, plus of course a blacksmiths oven and some steam driven machinery.
