WASHING UTENSILS Many antique washing utensiles in the area. The Jindera Pioneer Museum has a fully stocked laundry with copper, wooden washing trough, wooden mangles and wringers, and heaps of other helpful washing utensils of around the 1900 time. The Ruthergen Common School Museum has on display the most ingenious wooden washing machine with agitator which was made from a barrel of wine around the turn of the century. You will not see another washing machine like this anywhere else. They also have the torpedo washing machine on display.
The Myrtleford School museum also has a good range of antique washing machines, and washing instuments. At Myrtleford they have a vaccumme washing machine, with a hand pump.

WATER RACE An Historic Water Race may be seen at Sovereign View on the Cambarville Walk. The race took water to the Sovereign Gold Mine around 1870. Historic Water Race Marysville Another water race is the Yackandandah Gorge, where the water race was built in the gold rush days to divert the creek. Yackandandah Gorge Water Race There are a few water races at Beechworth, all built during the 1850's for the purpose of diverting water from the creek bed into which they were digging. There is a large water race to be seen east of the Newtown Bridge on the Wangaratta end of Beechworth. The other water race is at the Woolshed Falls, Beechworth. WATER WHEEL At Albury's Noriel Park there is a "Working Water Wheel" showing how the water was harnessed to provide power.
WATTLE AND DAUB COTTAGE
WHEN THE ORIGINAL GERMAN SETTLERS ARRIVED AT JINDERA FROM ADELAIDE BY WAGONS IN 1867 THEY FOUND THE WATTLE AND DAUB COTTAGE EXACTLY WHERE IT IS NOW, ( IN THE GROUNDS OF THE JINDERA MUSEUM ), WHICH MEANS THAT THIS COTTAGE COULD DATE BACK TO THE 1840'S, WHICH CERTAINLY MAKES IT THE OLDEST REMAINING ORIGINAL COTTAGE OR HOUSE IN THE ENTIRE ALBURY DISTRICT. You may see inside this cottage today and it really brings back the hard times the pioneers put up with.

WEIGHTS AND MEASURES The Rutherglen Museum has a full set of the instruments used by government officials to check the storekeepers weights and measures. These are in immaculate condition, and are accurate to the grain.
